Marriage is something worth celebrating, and every child deserves a mother and a father.
On March 26 and 27 the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on two important cases on marriage between a man and a woman. The first is California’s Proposition 8 (a state constitutional amendment stating “only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”) The second is the Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA (a federal law since 1996 that defines marriage between a man and a woman, and allows states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states). On March 26, there will be a national “March for Marriage” in Washington DC in support of marriage between a man and a woman. Individual states are also holding similar events.
In the state of Utah we have chosen to hold a “Celebration of Marriage” at the Utah State Capitol. This will be an exciting community event, with Alan and Suzanne Osmond as the MC’s, musical performances by Utah community groups, and speakers from several different religious faiths, members of the Utah State Legislature, and from the community.
